Free Comic Book Day @ The Zone Comics Scheduled

Free Comic Book Day is a single day when participating comic book shops across North America and around the world give away comic books absolutely free to anyone who comes into their stores. We will be supporting The Zone Comics by appearing in uniform and costume.

Free Comic Book Day falls on Saturday, May 2nd 2009. Exact times specific to The Zone Comics have yet to be announced, but in addition to promoting The Zone Comics, we will also be using this to promote USS Chicago, and the new Star Trek Movie.

For further information on the event, please check out Meetup.com group.

2009 Region 12 Summit Canceled

Citing scheduling difficultines, Interim Regional Coordinator Greg Trotter canceled this year's Region 12 Summit that was originally scheduled to be held in late May in Springfield, MO. Due to the resignation of former RC Wayne Kilough and difficulties with this year's Summit Committee, very little had been accomplished in putting the Summit together. The Summit Coordinator inform RC Trotter that he was unable to continue with the Summit, causing Trotter to seek input from the Region.

There were suggestions of having a picnic in Kansas, hosted by USS Hellfire & Brimstone, however Trotter was against the motion, believing that a Regional Summit needs a more formal setting. Other ideas for a Summit being hosted later in the year in a new location are being considered, and will likely be acted upon by the next Regional Coordinator.

New Site Features

Two new features have been added to the USS Chicago website. The first is the return of the Captain's Blog, the second being the activation of the Unit Award/Certifications section. The Captain's Blog is just that: a weblog that is maintained by the Commanding Officer of the Chapter. The Unit Awards/Certs section currently displays a banner showing our Shakedown Chapter of hte Year Award, and our earned Vessel Readiness Certification Program Certificates.

ID BADGES AVAILABLE

The first eight name badges have been completed, laminated and turned over to Cmdr. Puente. Badges are available for Jeff Gallus, O.T. Sam Myles, Meg and Katy Puente, Wade Freeman, and Kevin Ruiz. You can pick them up at The Zone at any time.

If you want an ID Badge, please show up to The Zone during a USS Chicago meeting in uniform (or costume) to have a picture taken.

CREW ROSTER ONLINE

The USS Chicago's official crew roster is now online. It is only partially complete, as we will be posting biographies on some crewmembers. This, however, will take much more time than simply getting the roster up online.

WEBSITE RECONSTRUCTION

The USS Chicago's website is currently undergoing a period of reconstruction to better serve the chapter as an information hub of current area events and organizations. The site will feature several new additions over the next few weeks to help improve your membership with the USS Chicago.
